The winners of the European Fashion Award FASH 2017 have now been selected. The awards will be announced during a ceremony at Berlin’s Bode Museum on July 3, 2017, the day before the Berlin Fashion Week. The honorific speech will be given by the German Minister of State for Europe at the Federal Foreign Office Michael Roth. Attendance at the award ceremony is by invitation only.

International Jury
The winners of the European Fashion Award FASH 2017 were selected by a jury of international experts from the high-fashion and sportswear industry, and the media and communications sectors. The jury selected the winners using a set criteria over a two-day period.
Jury members include Claudia Braun, Head of Color & Trim at Mercedes-Benz; Otto Drögsler, Creative Director at Odeeh; Joachim Schirrmacher, Creative Consultant; Thomas Steinbrück, Creative Director at Reebok (Boston) and Franco P. Tettamanti, fashion photographer (Paris). The jury meeting was moderated by Helge Aszmoneit from the German Design Council.

205 Entrants from 29 Countries
The theme of the European Fashion Award FASH 2017 was “Get Real”. Entrants were asked to create an alternative fashion that was emotional, touching, mysterious, and surprising. 205 students from 29 countries in Europe, Asia, and America entered the global competition. The jury credited the strong performance of German entrants to the country’s excellent schools and the fact that German entrants were, on average, five years older than many of the international entrants. Often, the German entrants had spent this time training as bespoke tailors, pattern makers, or production directors.

The Mentoring Program and Fashion Shoot
The winning collections were photographed by Franco P Tettamanti in May. This multi-award-winning fashion and portrait photographer is based in Paris and works for clients such as Dior, Louis Vuitton, Akris, Vivienne Westwood, Universal Music, Madame Figaro, and high-end magazine Hong Kong.
The photo shoot was followed by a day of mentoring offered in collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Berlin. The key aim of the day was for award-winners to receive in-depth advice from mentors on their portfolios.
The European Fashion Award FASH comes to over EUR 200,000 in value. In addition to the prize money, the award also includes a photography session, exhibition, award ceremony, mentoring program, and PR. The photos are displayed on premium digital posters by advertising company WallDecaux on the streets of Germany’s cities – Berlin’s Friedrichstrasse or Düsseldorf’s Königsallee, for instance.

A New Look for the European Fashion Award FASH
The award ceremony is also an opportunity for the European Fashion Award FASH 2017 to reveal its brand-new look. In this eye-catching new concept, SDBI—the world’s longest standing organization dedicated to promoting fashion students—places the award at the center of its activities. The striking red and purple stage highlights the innovation and creativity of the award-winning pieces. The award’s new look was designed by the Vienna-based studio Bueronardin, which has worked with the SDBI since 2004.

The European Fashion Award FASH

Today, previous winners work for famous international companies such as Adidas, Hugo Boss, G-Star, and Schumacher; designers such as Wolfgang Joop and Vivienne Westwood; or as designers in their own right, like Tim Labenda. Furthermore, European Fashion Award FASH winners often go on to receive a number of additional awards for their work.
The European Fashion Award FASH 2017 is presented by the non-profit organization, the Stiftung der Deutschen Bekleidungsindustrie (German Fashion Industry Foundation). Founded in 1978, the SDBI is the world’s longest standing organization dedicated to promoting fashion students.
